How much wood does the “average home” need? As they say, how long is a piece of string? Every home home or business will use wood really differently. The efficiency of your wood heater, the size of your home or family, the design of your home, and using alternative heaters like efficient air-conditioners, will all make a big difference to your wood needs:
2 cubic metres might be enough for regular winter fires - more for enjoyment than keeping you warm everyday;
4 cubic metres could be enough for a small-to-medium sized home, to stay warm most of winter, with occasional top up from an efficient split system air-conditioner;
6-8 cubic metres should get you through winter and shoulder seasons, for a medium sized home using wood for heat;
10 cubic metres or more is likely enough for a medium-to-large sized house, using an efficient wood heater daily through winter and shoulder seasons;
