Sustainable Wood Buying Guide:

  • When you buy from wood4good, you are buying from a nationally recognised forest manager - we selectively and sustainably harvest our forest assets in order to protect and enhance biodiversity. Our flagship asset is Crosbie Forest - a productive & regenerative forestry asset planted 18 years ago that is now home to over 250 species of flora and fauna

  • Customers ranging from households, farmers, through to large businesses, increasingly demand transparency over where their wood comes from and how those forests are managed. When you buy from wood4good, you get full transparency over provenance and supply chain.

Red ironbark or mugga (Eucalyptus tricarpa) has been well known as a durable, attractive and highly useful species since well before Europeans arrived in Australia. It is a local species to the areas of the plantations that wood4good manage on regenerative principles. It is a sporadic flowerer favoured by parrots and honey-eaters in particular.

Sugar gum (Eucalyptus cladocalyx) grows naturally in the rocky outcrops of the Flinders Ranges, it is a sought after firewood and timber species, a fact known for a very long time by farmers who planted it right throughout Victoria. It flowers reliably and as the name suggests contains a sweet sap in the bark sometimes sought after by sugar gliders and other small marsupials. In dry years when other locally-native species are taking a break our sugar gums continue to feed local wildlife and other human-uses.

A Summary of timber types is presented below:
